Stretch marks happen when the skin is pulled by rapid growth or stretching. They usually appear during the puberty around the age of 14-16 when the person quickly grow. The skin is normally elastic. When it’s overstretched, collagen (being a protein of the connective tissue) is disrupted leaving fine lines of bad elasticity. Carboxytherapy for stretch marks consists in intradermal injections of small quantities of CO2. It stimulates the production of collagen and the angiogenesis has a direct affect on pigmentation with partial to total re-pigmentation of white marks.
How does carboxytherapy work on stretch marks ?

Stretch marks occur when the dermis is stretched to a point where its elasticity begins to break down. The elastic weft is then damaged and collagen layer is torn. When the phenomenon occurs, a bleeding and vascular process can be seen: the young stretch mark is red. It is tne time when vascular lasers can work to clear redness. It is not proven that laser can stop the evolution to white old marks.
The stretch mark fade with time to a silvery white color that is a lighter than the natural skin tone. The light color is related to collagen production getting distrupted. Modification in the production of melanin may also get involved in the process.
Carboxytherapy goal is to be able to stimulate the production of local collagen to try and restore the elastic layer. The angiogenesis stimulation of CO2 has a direct effect on fibroblat cells which produce the collagen. The increased blood flow is also probably involved in melanin stimulation which lead to skin re-pigmentation. Thefeore, co2 injections have 2 effects on the stretch mark: collagen stimulation , re-pigmentation
